First UC Contract for Arizona DOT

01/06/2005

TBE has been selected for its first-ever utility coordination (UC) contract with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). With this contract award, TBE is providing UC services in every one of its Western Region states.

The one-year contract, with two one-year extensions, is for utility coordination services for Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) freeway design and construction projects. TBE is the sole UC provider under this contract. The projects, funded by a county-wide half-cent sales tax, include such needed improvements as 146 miles of new inner and outer loops around Phoenix, associated highway and secondary arterial widening, and HOV (high occupancy vehicles) lanes. These needed projects have been so well received that the Maricopa County voters recently approved a 20-year extension of the half-cent sales tax.

Notre Dame de Grace, Quebec: Some 300 people, including 60 children from a daycare centre, were forced to flee after a backhoe struck a gas main. The leak was under control in about an hour. A Fire Department Spokesman said that the excavator had requested a locate and the line had been marked. 'They should have been using hand shovels, not a backhoe,' the spokesman said.
