TBE Receives NASTT Industry Achievement Award

03/27/2006

Award honors TBE’s contribution in the development and support of the trenchless technology industry.
Awarded based on education/promotion of the trenchless industry, commercial impact, and noteworthy trenchless projects.

CLEARWATER, FL – Thanks to its educational and promotional efforts of the trenchless industry, outstanding commercial impact, and involvement in noteworthy trenchless projects, TBE Group, a full-service international consulting, design and engineering firm, has received the 15th Anniversary Industry Achievement Award in the medium-sized consultant category from the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT). The award was presented at the recent 2006 NASTT No-Dig Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. TBE Director Dorian Modjeski, who serves as the firm’s Water/Wastewater Service Group Manager and who presented a technical paper at the conference, accepted the award.

The NASTT achievement awards recognized North American companies, municipalities and educational institutions for their significant contributions to the trenchless industry over the past 15 years.

Trenchless technology uses techniques for utility installation, replacement, rehabilitation, renovation, repair, inspection, location and leak detection that involve minimum ground surface excavation. TBE is an internationally recognized leader in trenchless technology methods, particularly the innovative Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE). TBE has played an integral role in developing industry guidelines, serving as expert technical advisor, and advancing this preeminent, cost-effective engineering process to public- and private-sector entities worldwide.

NASTT is a multiple-disciplined society of individuals and organization whose mission is to advance the science and practice of trenchless technology for public benefit, to develop standards, and to promote education, training, research and development, information, improvements and status.

In her congratulatory remarks, Joanne Hughes, NASTT Chairman, said, “In celebrating our 15th No-Dig, it is only fitting and appropriate that we recognize those that have contributed so much to building the industry.” Piero Salvo, 2006 No-Dig Conference Chair, praised TBE’s efforts, which “have helped build one of the most exciting areas in infrastructure-related technology to be developed in the last century.”

“I was honored to accept the award on behalf of TBE,” said Dorian Modjeski. “We have been an eager participant in the No-Dig Conference for the past ten years. TBE strongly believes in the benefits of trenchless technology techniques, and we are firmly committed to the education and promotion of this technology among our clients and others around the world.”

“As an internationally recognized leader in trenchless technology methods, particularly Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), TBE has played an integral role in developing industry guidelines and serving as expert technical advisor to government agencies and industry associations,” said TBE Senior Vice President and Utilities Division Leader Nick Zembillas. “As a member firm of NASTT, we are dedicated to promoting and applying trenchless technology best practices throughout the world.”

Finding Underground Utilities Before the Drilling Rigs Do

An automated people mover (APM) system, part of a $2.6-billion capital development program, is currently under construction at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The project requires approximately 500 pier shafts to support the train system. Drilling these shafts, however, could result in conflicts with underground utilities, including airport's underground jet fuel distribution system.
