| Surveying Utilities Under the Port of Miami
A major development program is underway at the Port of Miami which includes the creation of new cruise ship terminals, remodeling of two existing terminals, construction of two multi-level parking garages and access road reconfiguration.
But before building could begin, complete Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services were essential. In the fall of 2002, TBE Group of Clearwater, FL, began designating and locating horizontal utilities across the 640-acre site. Their efforts resulted in a digital survey database of all underground utilities, identifying the type, size and depth for each system.
"The port worked these projects on a fast-track schedule in order to meet a compressed production timetable," says TBE's director of corporate marketing, Bill Vicary. "TBE developed multiple crews and accelerated work processes to complete the SUE services by this past spring. Work is now moving quickly to complete the above-ground construction." TBE continues to provide on-call services for the Port of Miami.
