Ground Pentrating Radar (GPR)
Powerful, Non-Invasive Technology

Recognized as one of the most powerful remote sensing instruments available today, ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a safe, non-invasive geophysical investigation method for "looking" underground to image subsurface features.

GPR detects metallic and non-metallic, natural and man-made underground features, including: utilities, storage tanks, rebar, sinkholes, voids, water tables, buried artifacts, land mines and graves.

Cardno TBE owns and operates a nationwide fleet of state-of-the-art GPR systems, which can be applied to a broad range of engineering and environmental applications, including:

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)
Utility Locating and Mapping
Condition Assessment of Various Diameter Utilities/Drainage Features
Subsurface Assessments/Encroachments
Concrete Assessments (rebar spacing, thickness, voids)
Examination of Structural Integrity
Landfill Boundary Delineation
Bedrock Surface Profiling
Groundwater Table Mapping
Conductive Contaminant Plume Mapping
Shallow Foundation/Footer Locating
Sand and Gravel Deposit Profiling
Archaeological Investigations

A Real-Time Look Underground

GPR works by emitting a series of FCC-approved high-frequency, high-amplitude
electromagnetic pulses (radio waves) that reflect off of underground irregularities.
The resulting digital GPR data is fed into a portable video display which provides
a real-time “picture” of a slice of the subsurface area. Cardno TBE’s experienced GPR
operators use this picture to pinpoint the precise location of subsurface features
on the ground surface in real time.
